Help with NHS health costs: There is a good summary of who is entitled to what on the NHS business services authority website – follow the link below. Knowing if you are entitled to eg free prescriptions or dental treatment has become more complicated for people receiving Universal Credit, and penalties for ticking the wrong box are high, so hopefully this information will help people avoid that.

Dorset Community Foundation has just launched its SURVIVING WINTER APPEAL encouraging those who can manage without their Winter Fuel Payment to donate it to the fund. Grants are then made to vulnerable people living in fuel poverty (applications are made via the Citizens Advice service). The photo you’ll get to via this link shows 520 pairs of slippers laid out on the beach – representing the number  of excess deaths due to the  cold.

A study from Policy in Practice of more than 10,000 benefit-capped households has found that for every child whose parents move back into work as a result of the cap, eight more will grow up in families whose financial circumstances have worsened following the introduction of the policy.
