Citizens Advice submission to the ‘Wefare Safety Net Inquiry’ December 2018: Identifies that a combination of factors over the last decade are likely to have contributed to many households becoming more exposed to significant financial difficulties and potential hardship including: no rise in real average earnings, an increase in more insecure types of employment, low levels of savings, and a reduction in the value of many working age benefits.
The report also notes that whilst IMD (Indices of Muliple Deprivation) data is useful the government needs to consider how to measure rural deprivation more effectively.
